The Ladies Room Door Art Series: Part Six

Standard

Women

A whole new year full of ladies room doors! Here we go!

The lovely red door above is from the Commonwealth Restaurant and Skybar on the mall in Charlottesville, Virginia.

My friend Susan found the elegant door below in the lobby of the Hotel Adlon in Berlin.

And Susan bumped into this one at the McDonald’s near Checkpoint Charlies in Berlin.

Blog reader Judy went to Ireland in the fall and met up with this sign in a pub called Hole in the Wall in Dublin.  Mna is women in Gaelic.

And from inside that bathroom, I present a first for Friend for the Ride: decorated stall doors!

  1. Are you sure you haven’t been to art school? or just unresolved bathroom issues? LOL, Really love the doors.Think of you whenever I hit the ladies in a restaurant.
Thought of you yesterday at the internists office – all staff menopausal?! I had to laugh, nobody liked estrogen patches or black cohosh, Advised them to try Maca -will update you if I hear anything positive. No one had heard of Maca.

      • This particular doctor is not in favor of estrogen patches because of the potential side effects (lady doctor) they were all interested in Maca but had never heard of it.

I was OK on the patch for a month or six weeks then got really queasy and it never went away. Every now and again I have tried a patch and am queasy within 24 hours.

      • I think she is opposed to HRT, I have never done well with HRT (had Premarin many years ago and birth control pills as well)
so we did not discuss it at length. Her advice was don’t take that stuff “Litany of problems” primarily causing blood clots, etc. She likes natural products recommended Black Cohosh. I did not want to take that so I decided to try the Maca – also talked to the Pharmacist who was quite intrigued as well but had never heard of it either.
This doctor is Egyptian and trained in Egypt — kind of interesting, but a total change from my Emory trained Internist of 25 years whose attitude was take whatever works but not for too long.

  2. Barbara, thank you, for your ongoing, amazing artistic sense in all of the photos, and original artwork, etc. that you present all of us with. And, the food for thought!

I had no idea that ladybugs were possibly “unisex.” So, I googled it, and found something on “answers.com” (http://www.answers.com/Q/Are_red_ladybugs_boys_or_girls) and have no idea if the following response would be consistent with a biologists or entomologyst’s interpretations:

    It read:
“Are red ladybugs boys or girls?

“There are boy ladybugs and girl ladybugs. It’s almost impossible for the average person to tell them apart. But here are some clue that might help. First, females are usually larger than males. Second, if you observe one ladybug riding atop another ladybug, they are in the process of mating. A male ladybug will grab the female’s elytra (hard wings) and holds on tight.

“They come in all different colors, too. Reds, yellows, orange, gray, black, brown and even pink.”

Well, you certainly inspire us to think about many things we might not normally think about, Barbara! As well as, you provide a very wonderful diversion with your “Ladies Room Door Art” – a breath of fresh air away from the heavier topics that we, as menopausal women, have to face!

Thanks, and look forward to more Ladies Room Art!

  3. THEY GET BETTER EVERY DAY. MARTY AND I ENJOY STOPPING AT “OUTBACK STEAKHOUSES” THE REST ROOMS WERE DESIGNATED AS “SHEILSA AND BLOKES”
SOME OF THE RESTAURANTS REDECORATED AND HAVE ARTWORK ON THE DOORS OF THE RESTROOMS, BUT USE “MEN AND WOMEN ” AS DESIGNATIONS. Boring!
